The Power of Lymphatic Drainage

Dr Vodder’s Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle treatment that was developed by Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Dr Estrid Vodder in the 1930s to treat lymphatic congestion within the body.

Rhythmic movements in the direction of lymphatic flow which gently stretch the skin are used to stimulate the lymphatic system relieving congestion as it increases the removal of excess fluid and waste products.

Fluid from the spaces around the tissues is collected and transported through vessels and nodes where the fluid is “cleaned” and returned to the circulatory system maintaining blood volume and fluid balance within the body. When there is a strain on the lymphatic system fluid collects in the tissues and this results in swelling, this can be from an injury, surgery, or illness for example.

    Lymphatic Massage Therapy

Lymphatic massage therapy is excellent for well-being and as part of a detox programme. The treatment stimulates the lymphatic flow and increases the removal of excess fluid and waste products.

    MLD and surgery

Surgery of any kind creates trauma to the body. Trauma causes inflammation as the body sends its workforce to protect and heal the area. The lymphatic system fights infection and reduces swelling.

  • Lipoedema & Lymphoedema

    Lipoedema & Lymphoedema

MLD can help with both Lipoedema and Lymphoedema, chronic conditions where an accumulation of lymphatic fluid builds up due to vessels or nodes being damaged or compromised.

  • Taping

    Taping

Taping an area of the body which is swollen can help with the removal of excess fluid. Special tape is applied in specific ways depending on the area of the body affected by the swelling,.

The Benefits of Lymphatic Massage

The benefits are endless - it relieves fluid congestion within the body eg swollen ankles, legs, arms, and tired puffy eyes. It helps with the healing of burns, injuries, and post-surgery. We can help to improve conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, sinusitis, migraines, and whiplash.

It’s relaxing as it helps to lower the tone of the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response) and heightens the tone of the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and repair). Detoxifying - A healthy lymphatic system boosts our immunity and can help to reduce pain.

If you are suffering from one or more of these then you would probably benefit from a manual lymphatic drainage massage:

  • Feeling stiff in the morning

  • Brain fog

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Bloating, digestion issues,
    food sensitivities

  • Swollen fingers
